Here’s some thoughts and notes:
Considering the reveal in the prologue, having Takako’s perspective follow up right away is quite daring. Looks like we’ll follow her journey in remembering what happened to her and Sachiko, just as Sachiko did in the prologue.
Bit of a theory here, but I think that Mayuko is a reflection of Sachiko. Considering Takako relied a lot on Sachiko, this basically follows suit. Additionally, the detail of Mayuko crying from the retelling of the trip seems to at least push that idea a bit further. (could be joyful tears, but the story wasn’t tear-jerkingly romantic at least
)
I’m wondering what Sanae’s role in all of this is, I couldn’t piece that together in my mind yet.
Also, knowing Takako, I bet she hasn’t written anything in her diary yet.
I like the structure of the mystery so far, it gives enough breadcrumbs to piece together an idea of what might be going on.
For my first theories I’m trying to decide between Takako simply being in a completely different time than when we saw Sachiko or if Mayuko and the entire sanitorium is something completely different from what she’s seeing. It doesn’t help that the girls look very similar imo, though that’s mostly the artstyle.
I love the design of Sanae though, she’s super cute. Even if she’s already the second side character I’ve said this about.
Well, gotta keep reading. I’m glad the chapters seem to be shorter than the prologue though. I hope they stay like this.
I’m trying to decide if the book Sanae was reading, titled SeaBed, is hinting at what’s going on, particularly with there being a time loop in the book.
Really liked this chapter. The glimpses into the past are really charming and the ways things vary in how they’re described really makes the characters feel different. Even what they choose to describe lends to that feeling.
I think you may be onto something here. I’d even expand on it and say that to me, it feels like both Sanae and Mayuko feel like parts of Sachiko split into two people. Two things we know are Sachiko is caring and attentive (Mayuko) and also loves to lose herself in books (Sanae). At least, from Takako’s perspective.
Just finished Chapter 1!
Hmm, don’t have much to say here myself directly, other than I enjoyed seeing things from Takako’s point-of-view, so I’ll reply to your thoughts instead!
I’ll try posting my replies separately, as it seems that Discourse groups them below individual posts, and that might make them easier to follow.
Nevermind, apparently Discourse doesn’t let me post more than three posts in a row, even if their contents are different ![]()
I’ll add the rest of what I was writing below this one…
absolutely lol
i’m pretty sure it will be used to cause some shock when inevitably the diary will be empty as soon as we go back to her perspective later
I did think about there being some similarities between Mayuko and Sachiko myself, and it seems I’m not the only one who’s picked that up!
Mayuko… being an older Sachiko…? Hmmm… Interesting!
Hmm, hmm, hmm… Feels like a third part/person is missing, though, as Sachiko seems to have a playful part to her too, which to me doesn’t seem to be represented by either…
Sanae and her book…
Definitely intrigued me, but I really have no theories on how it could be related to the game yet.
SeaBed (with no spaces, and that capitalization!) is such an odd title for a book…
